Biography
Isabella Nasr is a Research Assistant in the Heart Muscle Laboratory at the Heart Research Institute, working under the supervision of Professor Julie McMullen. She contributes to preclinical cardiovascular research focused on elucidating the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate cardiac muscle function, growth, and dysfunction in health and disease.
She holds a Bachelor of Clinical Science from Macquarie University and a Bachelor of Medical Science (First Class Honours) from the University of Technology Sydney, where she was recognised on the Dean’s Merit List for academic excellence. During her First-Class Honours research, Isabella led an independent preclinical study, gaining extensive experience in animal handling, molecular techniques, behavioural phenotyping, data analysis, and ethical research practices.
At HRI, Isabella applies a broad range of molecular and cellular techniques, including PCR and qPCR, Western blotting, DNA extraction, solution preparation, and animal handling, to support experimental studies investigating cardiac muscle signalling pathways and contractile function.
Her research interests lie in cardiovascular physiology and translational research, with a particular focus on understanding how molecular signalling pathways drive cardiac growth and function to inform the development of future therapeutic strategies.
