Alba Cisneros Martin

PhD Student

Biography

Alba Cisneros Martin is a PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), specializing in bioengineered human heart tissues and the impact of space-related stressors, including irradiation, vibration, and microgravity, on cardiac structure and function. Her research aims to translate insights from space biology into strategies to better understand and treat heart disease on Earth.

Alba holds a Master of Science in Biofabrication from the University of Würzburg, Germany. During her Master’s research, she contributed to a project funded by the Max Planck Queensland Centre in Brisbane, developing 3D in vitro infection models using GelMA-based hydrogels to study bacterial growth and biofilm formation within tissue-like environments. She has also worked on tissue engineering projects involving biomaterial design, scaffold functionalization, and mechanical characterization.

Her expertise bridges biology, biomaterials science, and advanced biofabrication techniques, integrating fundamental biological principles with functional 3D tissue modeling for translational biomedical applications.
