HRI proudly celebrates ‘World Heart Day’ each year as an opportunity for people across the globe to take part in the world's biggest intervention against cardiovascular disease (CVD).
World Heart Day is an initiative from the World Heart Federation, focusing this year on creating healthy heart environments.
By ensuring that everyone has the chance to make healthy heart choices wherever they live, work and play, World Heart Day encourages us all to reduce our cardiovascular risk, and promotes a heart-healthy planet for those around us.
Some sobering statistics:
Cardiovascular disease (heart, stroke and blood vessel disease) is still the leading cause of death in New Zealand, accounting for 30% of deaths annually1
Every 90 minutes a New Zealander dies from heart disease 1
One in twenty adults have been diagnosed with heart disease. That's more than 165,000 New Zealand adults 2
For these reasons (and more) cardiovascular disease is one of the world’s most pressing health problems... and it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
As you can see…. Hearts Matter! So make a change this World Heart Day.
