Meet the team

Roxane Darbousset completed her PhD studies in biology, focusing on the study of blood clotting mechanisms. She joined the Thrombosis Group at the HRI in January 2015.

“I am now working on trying to understand the ways in which important blood clotting cells, called platelets, can facilitate blood clot formation by promoting coagulation, a major step in the blood clotting process,” says Roxane.

"These studies may help us to identify new targets that we can use to develop safer and more effective anti-clotting drugs which could be used for treating cardiovascular disease (heart attack, stroke, diabetes etc.)"

Roxane believes that research requires a significant amount of passion and a belief that the work will one day make a difference.

"Our lab is very dedicated and involved in what we are doing, as we know that cardiovascular research has very wide reaching implications, given that so many people are affected by cardiovascular diseases (2 in 3 families are affected by cardiovascular disease in Australia).

She also knows how important donor support is. "The support of our donors is such an important part of our research, and helps us to achieve these goals. Your support of HRI helps build better quality research that may help not only you but also your family members and friends."
