Our top researcher wins international medal

Professor Len Kritharides, cardiologist, scientist and esteemed member of the Board of Governors of The Heart Research institute has won the Cardiac Society of New Zealand & Australia’s President’s Medal – this is the highest honour the Cardiac Society can award to individuals for services to the Cardiac Society.

Welcome High Blood Pressure Group

Up to 30% of the population will develop high blood pressure, which in turn can cause heart attack, stroke and kidney failure. With this in mind, we’re proud to announce the formation of the High Blood Pressure Group at the Heart Research Institute. This group, headed by the accomplished Professor Paul M Pilowsky, investigates how the brain controls the heart and circulation, and how this is involved in cardiovascular disease.

Welcome Vascular Complications Group

This week the Heart Research Institute announces the formation of another new research group, the Vascular Complications Group. This group, headed by Dr Mary Kavurma, will study the role of a pivotal protein called TRAIL.
