Belinda Di Bartolo finalist in Young Investigators Award

Awards and Achievements

The Heart Research Institute’s Belinda Di Bartolo was recently chosen as one of four finalists for the ATVB Young Investigator Awards at the November meeting of The American Heart Association in Chicago, USA.

Belinda is a postdoctoral fellow at the Heart Research Institute and part of the Vascular Complications Group.

The ATVB (Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology) Early Career Investigator Awards recognise ‘promising and outstanding investigators in the early stages of their careers’ according to the association.

These awards support the efforts of early career investigators in cardiovascular research.

The four chosen finalists were given the opportunity to present their work at the conference in a session specifically for ATVB Young Investigators

The awards are judged by panels of notable researchers, scientists, nurses, clinicians and academicians specialising cardiovascular disease and stroke reserach.

‘It’s a huge achievement – there is a lot of international competition – just making it as a finalist is impressive. I'm very proud of Belinda's achievements’ says Vascular Complications Group leader Mary Kavurma.

The conference was attended by nearly 18,000 scientists from all over the world.

‘The program consists mainly of plenary speakers, oral sessions and poster sessions’ said Belinda.

“I was happy to be chosen as a finalist – that in itself was a great achievement! It was great exposure to the international scientific community at this stage of my career.”

These conferences are an important opportunity to meet other scientists first hand to discuss what the international research community is doing.

They also allow scientists like Belinda to get their (and the HRI’s) name recognised on the world stage.

Congratuations Belinda.
